Shades of Tretchikhoff, no?
As ever, available as a print over at my society6.com shop
I’m working on a series of playing card illustrations. They’re all available to buy as prints over at my society6 shop.
I think I started these because I was taking an interest in symbols and graphic motifs. I decided to make up my own suits – brains, wings, carbon and scissors so I wouldn’t be bound to all the existing symbolism and associations that come with the usual suits of hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs. There are plenty of associations and meanings to be found in my cards, I’m not going to specify what they mean to me – I’ll let the viewer speculate on that or bring their own narrative. Or just appreciate them as figurative illustrations. I had an idea of the overall aesthetic I wanted, but of course it evolved as I started painting figures and collecting more symbols and inspirations. As a project it’s quite open-ended. I don’t have to stop with just four suits or one version of each card if I get inspired to do more in future.
Another print up for sale on Society6. Plus, there’s a promo on at the moment, click through this link and save $5 on any product before 11th November.
Finally got my drippy little character cast in resin and up for sale on etsy. Check it out!
Almost done, I think. Quite happy with this one, although I am dithering about finising it off. Like professionally made ball jointed dolls, the heads I make are joined together with magents. This allows the head to be opened up and the glass eyes to be changed or re-positioned. If I were ever to cast these heads to be put on doll bodies (now there’s a project for the future!) the elastic stringing the doll together would be tied to a hook inside the head, too. I personally quite like the join bisecting the head, but of course there’s always the option to cover it with a doll wig. Anyway, the magnets I’ve used in this instance aren’t strong enough and somehow the two parts don’t fit together as closely as I’d like. So I need to work on that a bit more. Base needs sanding and finishing, too.
Still working on my doll-bust-portrait-head-things. I had a bunch of my works in my Society6.com gallery selected to show up in their main shop. It’s nice to be noticed!
Here’s my latest two:-

And, if anyone is interest under the cut I have a layer-by-layer breakdown of how I created the above image… Continue reading
