BIO
Kat Saunt was born in 1984 and grew up in the Humber region, UK. She graduated with her BA (hons) in Fine Art from Northumbria University in 2010. Her current practice is divided between digital and traditional painting and most recently, doll making, a rewarding new direction which is almost as much a surprise to her as it is to everyone else. She remains fascinated by the status of the work of art in the age of digital reproduction, the semiology of fiction and characterisation. Her aesthetic sensibilities lean towards the Lowbrow, decorative and illustrative while remaining very aware of their Postmodern artistic context. Re-occuring themes in her work include: Emphasis of a painting as a 2-dimensional plane, spacial ambiguity, pop and trash culture and a sense of magic realism. Kat tends to work to formulas since she is often overwhelmed by the sheer amount of visual material from which to take inspiration. Although her practice is firmly routed in her Fine Art background she is keen to explore wider visual culture and is very interested in the distribution of art beyond traditional gallery channels.

GROUP EXHIBITIONS
OTHER EXPERIENCE I was a joint organiser of the above auction and preview exhibition and had a lead role in curating the successful NE Art event. I have gallery and museum experience (both in archives and front of house) and have also at times maintained a dirty little sideline in freelance illustration.
SITE
I've had the domain nijikon.net since 2003 which makes it one of my longest lasting relationships. It's been through lots of different versions and only disappeared once, for about a week, when I forgot to pay for my hosting. This relatively simple banana-inspired layout was, as usual, hand-coded in notepad because when it comes to webdesign, I'm apparently stuck in 1999. I'm thinking of moving over to wordpress.
