In an online world of reblogging, tumblr, pinterest, microblogging, status updates, sharing buttons and the 1% rule it's good to be reminded of that old SEO mantra "content is king".
Sharing is great – I love that I can promote great work by reblogging it. And I love that my own work has the easy opportunity to reach lots more viewers through sharing than I could ever reach if it just sat there on my own sites. These are exciting times; redefining how we think about copyright, how website traffic flows and how we all now own the means or reproduction and distribution.
But inevitably, credit to the content originator will get lost along the way - the chain of links gets broken. I seem to find myself wading through a flood of sites that do nothing but repost content. And there's so much content to consume, sometimes it's hard to stop frantically clicking and actually take time to create something. Maybe even something that needs more than 140 characters and has more impact than an image macro. Amid all the information overload and short attention spans there are people actually taking the time and effort to create all this wonderful information we consume. Here's to you, the content-creators. :)
So please, display these buttons with well deserved pride if you're someone who creates content, be that pictures, writing, music, videos or anything else.
